When we can’t meet candidates in person, we use Teams to interview and find it to be an essential tool when recruiting on behalf of our clients. In this age of virtual connections, nailing a Teams interview is vital! It's not just about scrutinising candidates through the pixelated lens – it's a chance to connect on a personal level while gaining a deeper insight into their career goals. I thought we’d share why the Jenkins Team use Teams and give you a few pointers ready for your next call:

  • Understanding Career Aspirations: A Teams call gives us a chance to delve into what motivates candidates and what they're truly hoping to achieve in their careers. This understanding helps us align their goals with the roles our clients offer.

  • Personal Connection: We can establish a personal connection with candidates. This connection often leads to more honest and open discussions, allowing us to gauge their passion and enthusiasm.

  • Effective Screening: By engaging candidates in conversation, we can better assess their communication skills.

Here are our tips for preparing for a Teams call:

  1. Understand the Role: Read the job description and gather examples from your experience that match the role. Highlight anything that isn’t clear. Don’t wing it!

  2. Practice, Practice, Practice: Rehearse your responses to those common interview questions. Shine a spotlight on your achievements and skills, and don't forget to share your career journey, even the short stints that you may have had.

  3. Check Your Tech: Give your tech a test run in advance. Ensure that your phone, internet, and those nifty apps won't decide to throw an unexpected tantrum when you're in the spotlight.

  4. Keep Your CV Handy: Have a copy of your CV in front of you to help you navigate the conversation.

  5. Look the Part: Even if it's a virtual interview, dressing professionally can put you in the right mindset.

  6. Take Notes: Jot down key points and questions but keep the conversation natural and flowing.

  7. Be Punctual: Aim to join a few minutes early to make a positive first impression and overcome any tech issues.

  8. Stay Positive and Energetic: Speak clearly and enthusiastically with a friendly tone.

  9. Ask Thoughtful Questions: Prepare questions – ask about the company, team, or role to demonstrate your interest and enthusiasm.

Following these tips will help you excel in your Teams interview and make a memorable impression on the interviewer. Best of luck!
